Based on the wider socio-political context and some phenomena in Chinese heritage studies, my PhD research takes national archaeological site parks as an entry point and aims to find out how the Yangshao Culture is represented as national heritage and plays a role in the nation-building of contemporary China. My research will look into how local narratives of the Yangshao Culture are presented in selected parks and further absorbed in the national narrative. I will also investigate how local communities affected by park constructions perceive the heritage discourse and the national identity presented in the parks.
