Research
My PhD research looks at ‘everyday’ historical resources of colonial heritage in Korea regarding multi-layered memories of the general public. I am developing a new concept of 'everyday colonial heritage', which can discuss everyday built environments created by former colonisers but still used and transformed by the postcolonial society of the formerly colonised countries. This research focusses on case sites in my hometown, Busan in South Korea, where various colonial heritage and the Korean War heritage remain. I am also interested in urban heritage, dark heritage, indigenous studies and refugee studies.
