Biography

Bharath Nair, born in Kerala, received his Integrated MSc in Chemistry from National Institute of Technology, Rourkela, India (2018). Thereafter, he completed his PhD in Biochemistry at the University of Copenhagen as part of the TALENT Doctoral Fellowship Programme (2022) under the supervision of Prof. Matthew Collins and Prof. Carsten Wiuf. Subsequently he continued with his postdoctoral research at the Globe Institute, University of Copenhagen as part of the ERC funded Beasts to Craft (B2C) project. Currently, he is a postdoctoral research associate funded by the ERC B2C project.

Research

I am interested in developing experimental and computational workflows to study the patterns of degradation in ancient proteins.

 Currently, I am investigating the degradation patterns of the model protein, Beta-lactoglobulin (BLG), and its peptides in solution by tracking the degradation products using mass spectrometry (MS)-based proteomics and quantifying the extent of racemization using reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC).

I aim to develop a universal model of protein decay using a combination of analytical and statistical methods.
