Archaeology and Anthropology within HSPS

Cambridge offers a three-year course ('Tripos') in Human, Social, and Political Sciences (HSPS) during which students can specialise in the three disciplines of the Department: Archaeology, Biological Anthropology or Social Anthropology.

This University is distinctive, however, in offering a range of combinations of these disciplines during the first year of the course (Part I of the Tripos). This provides a comprehensive introduction to and overview of the subjects and related techniques, indicates how they relate and interact with each other, and forms the bedrock of a student's later specialisation.

The conclusion of the first year is an Honours examination in the four papers taken by the student. Following Part I, and building on this introduction, students can choose one or of the disciplines for the second and the third year study (called 'Part II').
